Teens are probably among the most voracious internet users, taking advantage of technology to talk to their friends and chat about school. Chat rooms are full of teens talking about the latest video games, magazines, movies, music videos and more. There are now teen chat communities that exist thanks to some chat servers that cater to teens directly, and they are completely free to use.
Monitoring Teen Chat
Teen chat rooms are monitored by moderators and server administrators to insure the kids are not acting inappropriately. Cursing is censored and abusive behavior is dealt with swiftly. Repeat offenders end up banned from servers, either temporarily or permanently. Some services even send emails to parents to inform them of actions taken by board administrators.
Teen chat rooms can be created by administrators, but the teens are also able to host rooms of their own. If they want to talk about something not already being discussed they can easily create a room and invite guests to join them. It is also possible to host rooms for friends and family only, which keeps strangers from joining by requiring a password to enter.
Third party chat rooms, those created by companies other than internet service providers, are free to use. Parents and teens are not required to pay any fees to use their service, although there are often premium services that can only be accessed by paying a fee. Subscriptions are also common, but not required. Using web cams and audio, however, is not exclusive to subscribers, and anyone with a web cam can join in a video conference with ease.
